It's official: It now sucks less to be a Celtics fan

How much less, remains to be seen. According to multiple sources Kevin Garnett is headed to Beantown. Which might kinda start to make up for their lame draft and McHale's many misfires.

Why does Blazer Nation care ? Well, we don't really, but we do like to keep up with former players, starting with Danny Ainge. If I am Minny, I am less than excited to be getting Telfair (of gun-toting, nightclub shooting, 50K necklace jacking fame) and Ratliffe, who while he was here was good, but only when healthy, so not that often. And frankly, is literally way past the best consumed by date.

In the end, Boston unloads a thug and an ancient dude. Gets back KG. Was Minny high ?

Oden to miss US training camp

According to the Real Gm site, new Trailblazer Greg Oden will miss US training camp for the second year (last year: broken wrist) and may lose a chance at Olympic play in '08.

This is not a huge surprise since Oden just had his tonsils out July 14 and left summer league in Las Vegas after an unstellar two games. However, none of us really work well being sick, so I was happy to see him just go home and get well.

Being the new IT boy in the league has its drawbacks; his schedule from draft day forward was basically non-stop. He will also have to adjust to the fast-approaching 82 game regular schedule. So I say, don't squander your off season. Playing for one's country is an honor. But not at your health's expense.

Channing Frye is finally introduced...

Not sure what the hold up was, really. What with Oden out, you'd think the Blazer management would be eager to fill up space with what else is going on with the team. At least Frye seems happy to be here, according to Jason Quick of the Oregonian:

Frye said he hopes he is part of the organization's long-term plans. He already has purchased a condo in the south waterfront and intends on making Portland his home.

"In life you go places where you think maybe things will work out or maybe I'll just blend or maybe it will grow on me," Frye said. "But as soon as I got off that plane, I felt at home. This is where I'm supposed to be and I just want to take advantage of it."

*Frye may have grown up in Arizona and attended the University of Arizona, but he is a Northwesterner at heart. Fishing is one of his hobbies.

"I do love fishing," he said. "It's a chance for me to get away from basketball. You can't really get hurt fly fishing in a foot of water (laughter) so it's pretty safe. It's a chance for me to just relax. Basketball is stressful and fishing gives me a chance to think about myself and kind of get away from the world."

Can we go back to the part where he said Basketball is stressful ?? I'm happy he's here, and I'm even happier that Randolph is long gone. But really -- compared to say, me, who teaches teenagers, and Joe Sixpack Dude, who works some paperwork job for no pay and less appreciation than me, I highly doubt that playing basketball professionally is on the top of the stressful jobs list. Please.

I'm just saying. Welcome to PDX, and relax already.

Oregonian confirms: Allen NOT selling

I know, I know. Here we go again with the Allen's selling the team, wait, no he's not. It seems to me the rumor had to come from somewhere, so that part still makes me nervous. Here's what Casey had to say:

Regarding the report today out of the New York Sun that a Michigan-based ownership group has shown interest in purchasing the Trail Blazers. I just got off the phone with Michael Nank, spokesperson for Paul Allen over at Vulcan Inc., and he assures me that the Trail Blazers are most definitely not for sale. Nank was also kind enough to send me an email with the same information, which goes as such:

I caught your Blog today regarding the New York Sun article. I wanted to let you know that any speculation regarding the team is unwarranted. Mr. Allen is 100% committed to the Portland Trail Blazers and he has no interest in selling the franchise.
Hope this clears things up...and go Blazers!

So there you go. Maybe the group from Michigan was actually interested in buying the LumberJax.

Welcome to BNN, the most trusted name in Blazer News

Good afternoon Blazer basketball fans, wherever you may be -- it's an exciting time to be a Blazer fan. Whether you just discovered the team as part of the Greg Oden lottery era, or are an old school been-with-them-through the glory days of 77 on forward, this team is on the brink of a special time.

We are especially pleased with Blazer management's moves this summer to bring back Steve Blake and re-sign Travis Outlaw. We are equally bummed to see Ime Udoka left out of the loop, since he is such a workhorse (started 75 games last season) and now he's just SOL and will probably leave us soon.

Stay tuned as fall camp starts up soon, and watch this space for any and all Blazer happenings.
Thanks for joining me.
